This course provides an overview of safety procedures for using traffic control devices and signs in work zone situations. This includes placement of cones, placement of signs, usage of flagging procedures, and usage of pilot vehicle. An emphasis of this course is complying with Part 6 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Temporary Traffic Control. Also, participants will develop MUTCD compliant traffic control plans. This course is designed specifically for construction and maintenance personnel for transportation applications.

- Identify and select suitable traffic control devices and signs in work zones.
- Recognize fundamental concepts of setting up work zones, including proper signage, taper lengths, flagging procedures, and pilot vehicle escort.
- Analyze common scenarios and develop compliant MUTCD temporary traffic control plans.
Who should attend? City Maintenance Crews, County Maintenance Crews, Local Public Works Departments, Tribal Communities, and Oklahoma Department of Transportation Crews.

Alan Sanders
Alan Sanders is a 30 year veteran of the Fire and EMS communities. He retired from the fire service as a Training Officer and has served as Training Coordinator for a Fire and EMS training facility. Alan is recognized by the Federal Highway Administration as a Traffic Incident Management Instructor.
